It is also applicable for programming purposes. NOTE The diagnostic services base according to ISO 14229-1 and most services are common to the two communication modes, CAN and K-line. With CAN, however, there is no need for a service to start the communication, as the electronic control unit (ECU) always starts in the standard diagnostic session.

This part of ISO 15031 specifies a minimum set of requirements for a diagnostic connector used in communication between vehicle and external equipment for emissions-related diagnostics. Its aim is to promote the use of a common diagnostic connector throughout the motor vehicle industry. The diagnostic connection consists of two mating connectors, the vehicle connector and the external test equipment connector. Applicable to all types of road vehicles, the connector specified has no positive locking feature and is intended for short-term diagnostic connection only. This part of ISO 15031 specifies functional requirements for a) the vehicle connector, separated into the four principal areas of 1) connector location/access, 2) connector design, 3) connector contact allocation, and 4) electrical requirements for connector and related electrical circuits, and b) the external test equipment connector, separated into the three principal areas of 1) connector design, 2) connector contact allocation, and 3) electrical requirements for connector and related electrical circuits. The dimensional requirements of the vehicle connector are given as a minimum specification, to allow design freedom.

This International Standard for Manoeuvring Aids for Low Speed Operation addresses light-duty vehicles, e.g. passenger cars, pick-up trucks, light vans and sport utility vehicles (motorcycles excluded) equipped with such MALSO systems. It specifies minimum functionality requirements which the driver can generally expect of the device; i.e., detection of and information on the presence of relevant obstacles within a defined (short) detection range. It defines minimum requirements for failure indication as well as performance test procedures; it includes rules for the general information strategy but does not restrict the kind of information or display system. MALSO systems use object-detection devices (sensors) for ranging in order to provide the driver with information based on the distance to obstacles. The sensing technology is not addressed; however, technology affects the performance-test procedures set up in this International Standard (refer to Clause 7). The current test objects are defined based on systems using ultrasonic sensors, which reflect the most commonly used technology at the time of editing this International Standard. For other sensing technologies possibly coming up in the future, these test objects shall be checked and changed if required. Visibility-enhancement systems like video-camera aids without distance ranging and warning are not covered by this International Standard. Reversing aids and obstacle-detection devices on heavy commercial vehicles are not addressed by this International Standard; requirements for those systems are defined in ISO/TR 12155.

This part of IEC 62196 is applicable to plugs, socket-outlets, connectors, inlets and cable assemblies for electric vehicles, intended for use in conductive charging systems which incorporate control means, with a rated operating voltage not exceeding: - 690 V a.c, 50 - 60 Hz, at a rated current not exceeding 250 A; - 600 V d.c, at a rated current not exceeding 400 A. These accessories and cable assemblies are intended to be used for circuits specified in IEC 61851-1 which operate at different voltages and frequencies and which may include ELV and communication signals. These accessories and cable assemblies are to be used in an ambient temperature of between -30 ℃ and +50 ℃. In some countries, other requirements may apply. These accessories are intended to be connected only to cables with copper or copper-alloy conductors. The accessories covered by this standard are for use in certain modes of charging EV's. These modes are defined in IEC 61851-1. These definitions and a description of the types of connection (cases A, B and C), also described in IEC 61851-1, are reproduced herein as Annex A. Table 1 illustrates the types of accessories (B, U32, UA, UD) permitted for each charging situation (mode and case) and identifies where it is mandatory to use the accessories covered by this standard. These are indicated by the entries in the columns headed "62196" in Table 1. The table also describes situations in which either an accessory covered by this standard, or other standardized accessories, are permitted to be used. They are identified by an entry in the column headed "62196" and the word "Any" under the column headed "Type". This standard does not apply to those standardised accessories used in charging systems where the use of such accessories constructed to the requirements of other standards is permitted (e.g. in mode 1 and mode 2). Such standardized accessories may be used for those situations (mode and case) identified in Table 1 by the word "Any" under the column headed "Type" and with no corresponding entry under the column headed "62196". This standard can be used as a guide for accessories with a lesser number of contacts and lower ratings for use with light duty vehicles.
