This part of IEC 61097 specifies the minimum requirements for shipborne receivers intended to be connected to an external installation, including a decoder for digital selective calling (DSC), and used as receivers for watchkeeping on DSC channels on board ships operating in the maritime mobile MF, MF/HF and VHF bands allocated in the Radio Regulations of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to the maritime mobile service, both in connection with distress and safety communication and in connection with general communication. These requirements include the relevant provisions of the Radio Regulations and recommenda-tions ITU-R M.489, and ITU-R M.541, and relevant provisions of resolutions A.694, A.803, A.804 and A.806 of the International Maritime Organization (IMO). This standard also specifies technical characteristics, methods of testing and required test results for dedicated watchkeeping receivers for use with radio installations in the GMDSS as required by chapter IV of the International Convention for Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS) 1974, as amended, and with which IEC 60945 is associated. When a requirement in this standard differs from IEC 60945, the requirement of this standard takes precedence. This standard covers receivers with analogue or with digital DSC signal output interfaces or with both. DSC watchkeeping receivers can be either fixed frequency receivers or, in MF/HF bands, scanning receivers. They may be a separate equipment or be integrated with a DSC or radiotelephone equipment. For integrated equipment this standard specifies the requirements and methods of testing of the DSC watchkeeping receivers only. The DSC equipment or radiotelephone shall comply with the requirements of the relevant standard, for example, IEC 61097-3 [3], IEC 61097-7 [4] and IEC 61097-9 [5] respectively. NOTE - All requirements of this standard resulting from the above referenced IMO resolutions or ITU recommendations are identified by quoting the number of the IMO resolution or ITU recommendation and relevant paragraph in brackets following the requirement. note: * Figures in square brackets refer to the bibliography given in annex C.

This guide will give SAR personnel options in choosing a form that will fit their specific need. These forms will assist in the organization, management, and documentation of a search or rescue incident. Additional forms will be categorized by topics such as management, investigation, training documentation, equipment maintenance, and reports. This guide will compare the original ICS forms with samples of those developed to parallel them for SAR. Once categorized, an explanation will be given for each type of form. Some examples of these forms will be shown. Some contributors have included detailed instruction for the use of their forms. This guide may serve as the basis for new forms to be created using some information found here.1.1 This guide gives examples of forms used in the SAR community.1.2 It is not the intent of this guide to recommend one form over another, but to make the user aware of the many different types of forms used. This guide does not purport to contain every form used in SAR, only a few examples of forms in each category.1.3 These forms cover a great variety of the many aspects involved in SAR. This guide will attempt to give a few versions of forms used for each aspect identified. The user may choose which form best fits his particular need.1.4 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

This part of IEC 61097 specifies the minimum operational and performance requirements, technical characteristics, methods of testing and required test results of the satellite emergency position indicating radio beacon used in the Inmarsat-E satellite system (satellite EPIRB), as required by Regulation IV/7.1.6 of the 1988 amendments to the 1974 International Convention for Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), and which is associated with IEC 60945. When a requirement in this standard is different from IEC 60945, the requirement in this standard shall take precedence. This standard incorporates the performance standards of IMO Resolutions A.662(16) and A.812(19). It also incorporates the relevant ITU Radio-Regulations and the technical characteristics for satellite EPIRBs as contained in Recommendation ITU-R M 632-2 (formerly CCIR Recommendation 632), and takes account of the general requirements contained in IMO Resolution A.694(17), as detailed in IEC 60945. This standard does not incorporate the Inmarsat system requirements needed for Inmarsat type approval and for which the latest edition of the Inmarsat-E System definition manual should be consulted. When a requirement in this standard is different from that in the Inmarsat-E System definition manual, reference shall be made to the most recent IMO and ITU applicable documents to resolve the difficulty. This standard covers the following categories of satellite EPIRB: Category 1 - Satellite EPIRB with position updating from the ship's navigational installation and 9 GHz SART. Category 2 - Satellite EPIRB with position updating from an integral facility for automatic position updating. Category 1 or 2 with the addition of a 121,5 MHz homing transmitter. Category 1 or 2 with remote control meeting the requirements of Regulation IV subclauses 10.1.4.3 and 10.2.3.2.2 of the 1988 amendments to the 1974 SOLAS Convention. Both categories of EPIRBs are to be considered as "portable", as defined in IEC 60945 except as required in 5.18.2 for the release mechanism. The remote control unit, if included, shall be considered as "protected" equipment. This standard also includes minimum performance standards for a manually activated satellite EPIRB without float-free release mechanism (see annex C). Preconditioning as defined in IEC 60945 is not required before beginning the type testing procedure. All text of this standard, the wording of which is identical to that in the IMO SOLAS Convention as amended and IMO Resolutions A.658(16), A.662(16), A.694(17), A.702(17) and A.812(19), and Recommendation ITU-R M.632-2 (formerly CCIR Recommendation 632) will be printed in italics and the resolution or recommendation and paragraph number indicated between brackets. note:1) To meet the requirements for remote activation, a remote control unit is required which is capable of remote activation and deactivation and feeding "nature of distress" information to the satellite EPIRB.

This part of IEC 61097 specifies the minimum operational and performance requirements and methods of testing with required test results for transmitters and receivers capable of voice communication, digital selective calling and narrow band direct printing telegraphy for the GMDSS operating in either the medium frequency band only or in medium and high frequency bands allocated in the ITU Radio Regulations to the Maritime Mobile Service, as required by Chapter IV of SOLAS 1974 as amended in 1988 and which is associated with IEC 60945. When a requirement in this standard is different from IEC 60945, the requirement of this standard shall take precedence. This standard refers to equipment for: - single side-band (SSB) transmission and reception for radiotelephony; - frequency shift keying or single side-band transmission and reception for digital selective calling signals (DSC) according to Recommendation ITU-R M.493-7; and - frequency shift keying or single side-band transmission and reception for narrow band direct printing telegraphy (NBDP) according to Recommendation ITU-R M.625-3; as applicable. This standard refers to radio equipment, which is not integrated with OSC encoders or decoders, or NBDP modems, but defines the interfaces with, and the RF characteristics of, such equipment. NOTE - The requirements for integrated DSC encoders or decoders may be found in IEC 61097-3 and for integrated NBDP modems in the future IEC 61097-11. These requirements include the relevant provisions of the Radio Regulations and of the IMO Resolutions A.334(IX), A.421(XI), A.694(17), A.804(19), and A.806(19) and SOLAS. NOTE - The requirement for two-tone generators (A.421 (XI)) is only applicable until 1 February 1999. If the equipment, or parts of it, is designed in such a manner that it can be used for other categories of maritime radiocommunication services (e.g. radio data or facsimile transmission), those parts of the equipment shall fulfil the relevant requirements of the appropriate standards for the service(s) in question. NOTE - All text of this standard the wording of which is identical to that in IMO Resolutions and to that in the relevant ITU-R Recommendations is printed in italics and is prefixed by references (804 etc.) in brackets. When the text is identical in A.804 and A.806 the reference A.806 will be used.
