The purpose of this AIR is to provide aircraft ECS engineers and their managers with information about a generalized computer program method for calculating steady state thermodynamic performance of an aircraft environmental control system. Many current computer programs are company proprietary or tend to be specifically oriented to a particular ECS configuration or system. This AIR describes a computer program general enough to allow analysis of essentially all types of environmental control systems. It is available to companies in the environmental control system industry. The general nature of the computer solution is useful for sizing activities and trade study during a preliminary design phase, as well as for detailed system performance analysis. The intent of this AIR is improved communication between aircraft user, aircraft manufacturer, and ECS equipment suppliers by use of an industry-wide computer program. This AIR describes the Advanced Environmental Control System Computer Program, and suggests further improvements to expand its capabilities.

The Engineering Analysis System (EASY) computer program is summarized in this report. It provides techniques for analysis of steady-state and dynamic (transient) environmental control system (ECS) performance, control system stability, and for synthesis of optimal ECS. General uses of a transient analysis computer program for ECS design and development, and general features of EASY relative to these uses, are presented. This report summarizes the nine analysis options of EASY, EASY program organization for analyzing ECS, data input to the program and resulting data output, and a discussion of EASY limitations. A generalized computer program for determining transient thermodynamic performance of aircraft ECS, and methods for dynamic analysis of aircraft ECS are discussed in this report.

This Aerospace Information Report (AIR) describes a mathematical model that can be used to analyze particle count data. Particle counts that fit the model can be graphically displayed, converted from one counting size-frequency range to another, and extrapolated to estimate counts beyond the measured range. Derivation, applications and calculations are described. Cumulative particle counts larger than stated size-range are fitted against a modified log-normal distribution function by plotting on special log-log graph paper. Many real particle distributions approximate a straight line, showing good fit for this log-normal model. The resultant plot provides a basis for further analysis, including size-range conversion and extrapolation.

This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) covers air data computer equipment (hereinafter designated the computer) which when connected to sources of aircraft electrical power, static pressure, total pressure, outside air temperature, and others specified by the manufacturer (singly or in combination) provides some or all of the following computed air data output signals (in analog and/or digital form) which may supply primary flight instruments: pressure altitude; pressure altitude, baro-corrected; vertical speed; calibrated airspeed; mach number; maximum allowable airspeed; overspeed warning; and total air temperature. In addition, the computer may supply one or more of the following signals: pressure altitude, digitized; equivalent airspeed; true airspeed; static air temperature; altitude hold; airspeed hold; mach hold; angle of attack; flight control gain scheduling; and others.

This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) includes all missile and launch vehicle actuation systems, including electrohydraulic, electropneumatic, and electromechanical types. The data for many systems are not complete. As more information becomes available, periodic updates will be issued to complete existing data sheets and to add new ones. An index by type of vehicle and by type of actuation system is included. The actual data sheets in the body of the report are organized in alphabetical order. A survey of existing designs (past and present) is a valuable aid during the concept formulation stage of a new design. This summary report on missile and launch vehicle actuation systems has been formulated to provide a data base that should be useful in the initial design stages of a new system.

This AIR by the G-11AT (automation and Tools) subcommittee, examines the failure mode, effects and criticality analysis (FMECA) requirements and procedures as performed on current and earlier vintage engineering programs. The subcommittee has focused on these procedures in relation to the concurrent engineering (CE) environment to determine where it may be beneficial, to both FMECA analysts and users, to automate some or all of the FMECA processes. Its purpose is to inform the reader about FMECAs and how the FMECA process could be automated in a concurrent engineering environment. There is no intent on the part of the authors that the material presented should become requirements or specifications imposed as part of any future contract. The report is structured to include the following subjects: a. a FMECA overview; b. the current FMECA process; c. FMECA in the concurrent engineering environment; d. FMECA automation; and e. the benefits of automation.
