This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) specifies the characteristics of screw threads - UNJ profile inch series, including a mandatory controlled radius as specified in Table 1 at the root of the external thread. The minor diameter of both external and internal threads provides a basic thread height of .5625H to accommodate the external thread maximum root radius. The following detailed design requirements are included: a. Screw threads - UNJ basic profile and design profiles. b. Standard series of diameter-pitch combinations for nominal thread diameters from 0.060 to 6.000 inches. c. Standard thread classes and form tolerances. d. Formulae for thread dimensions and tolerances. e. Method of designating UNJ threads. f. Tables for selected diameter-pitch combinations for close tolerance mechanical thread applications. g. Tables for screw thread - UNJ profile thread limit dimensions. This document specifies the geometric design for each characteristic of screw threads - UNJ profile inch series and the conformance requirements. In addition, the purpose of this standard is to: a. Define the geometric requirements for a selected series of Unified Screw Threads, modified to provide a radius at the external thread root. b. Establish requirements for a continuous radius at the root of the external threads. c. Establish requirements for an increase in the minor diameter of both internal and external threads to accommodate the external thread root radius.

This European Standard specifies the technical requirements to minimise the hazards listed in clause 4 which can arise during the commissioning, operation and maintenance of deicers and equipment designed exclusively for deicing and washing of aircraft with deicing/antiicing/washing liquids when carried out in accordance with the specifications given by the manufacturer or his authorised representative. It also takes into account some performance requirements recognised as essential by authorities, aircraft and GSE manufacturers as well as airlines and handling agencies. NOTE Safety of aircraft in connection with deicing/antiicing operations is not dealt with in this European Standard. Any, even minor, aircraft deicing or antiicing operation directly affects flight safety on take-off. Prevention of aeronautical accidents resulting from in-flight icing principally concerns the fluids and methods used, but it may in certain cases also concern deicing or antiicing equipment design or operation. These aeronautical aspects are not covered in this European Standard (see also Joint Aviation authorities (JAA), Joint Aviation Regulations (JAR) JAR-OPS subpart D 1.345 and any associated material). This standard applies to: — self-propelled deicers with fixed platform or hinged boom; — towable deicers with fixed platform or hinged boom; — stationary deicing/antiicing equipment (e.g. fixed boom, gantry or tower cranes equipped with aircraft deicing/antiicing fluid systems). This standard does not apply to: — fixed installations, such as separate storage tanks or heating and filling stations, which are not an integrated part of the stationary deicing equipment; — hydraulic control systems; — pneumatic systems; — flow generating systems as such. This standard does not establish requirements for noise and vibration. Noise and vibration are dealt with respectively in prEN 1915-4 and prEN 1915-3. This standard is not dealing with hazards in respect to a standard automotive chassis and the traffic on the apron. This part of EN 12312 is not applicable to deicers and deicing/antiicing equipment which are manufactured before the date of publication by CEN of this standard.

This part of ISO 14952 provides requirements related to rough-cleaning processes used to prepare parts and components for precision cleaning. It identifies precleaning processes that can be used for ground support equipment, launch vehicles and spacecraft. Rough cleaning removes contaminants such as weld scale, heat-treat scale, corrosion, oxide films, oils, grease, shop soil, fuel and carbon deposits. Rough cleaning is considered a normal shop process and usually does not require special environmental controls, packaging, handling or storage beyond accepted good practice. This part of ISO 14952 is applicable equally to ground support equipment, launch vehicles and spacecraft. NOTE The cleanliness level achieved by rough cleaning does not normally require verification beyond visual inspection. (Wipe test, waterbreak test, ultraviolet inspection, special lights and mirrors are considered aids to visual inspection.)
