This part of ISO 16000 specifies procedures to be used in planning of air measurements to determine the concentrations of asbestos in indoor atmospheres. Careful planning of the measurement strategy is important, because the results can become the basis of recommendations for major building renovations, or for the return of a building to normal occupancy status after removal of asbestos-containing materials. This part of ISO 16000 uses the following definition for indoor environments as specified in ISO 16000-1: -- dwellings having living rooms, bedrooms, do-it-yourself (DIY) rooms, recreation rooms, cellars, kitchens and bathrooms; -- workrooms or workplaces in buildings which are not subject to health and safety inspections in regard to air pollutants (for example, offices and sales premises); -- public and commercial buildings (for example, hospitals, schools, kindergartens, sports halls, libraries, restaurants and bars, theatres and other function rooms); -- cabins of vehicles and public transport.

This British Standard gives recommendations and describes methods for the investigation and assessment of the ground gases methane and carbon dioxide during new development of affected sites, and is not intended for the assessment of completed developments. It details a process that can be used to effectively demonstrate that risks posed by the potential presence of ground gas have been adequately considered and addressed. It presents the assessment and decision making stages in the form of a process flowchart, accompanying information and explanatory guidance and, where appropriate, references to other guidance and information. The standard does not consider ground gases other than methane and carbon dioxide. NOTE Other gases might require specific risk assessments and have to be considered separately.

This International Standard provides comprehensive guidance and specific statistical procedures for uncertainty estimation in air quality measurements including measurements of ambient air, stationary source emissions, indoor air, workplace atmospheres and meteorology. It applies the general recommendations of the Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement (GUM) to boundary conditions met in air quality measurement. The boundary conditions considered include measurands varying rapidly in time, as well as the presence of bias in a series of observations obtained under conditions of intended use of methods of air quality measurement. The methods of measurement considered comprise -- methods corrected for systematic effects by repeated observation of reference materials, -- methods calibrated by paired measurement with a reference method, -- methods not corrected for systematic effects because they are unbiased by design, and -- methods not corrected for systematic effects in intended use deliberately taking into account a bias. Experimental data for uncertainty estimation can be provided either by a single experimental design in a direct approach or by a combination of different experimental designs in an indirect approach.

This European Standard specifies a test bench method for the measurement of the emission rate of a given airborne hazardous substance from machines using a test bench under specified operating conditions of the machine. The measurement of the emission rates of a given pollutant emitted from machines can serve for: a) the evaluation of the performance of a machine; b) the evaluation of the reduction of pollutant emissions of the machine; c) the comparison of machines within groups of machines with the same intended use (groups are defined by the function and materials processed); d) the ranking of machines from the same group according to their emission rates; e) the determination of the state of the art of machines with respect to their emission rates. This European Standard is not applicable to machinery which is manufactured before the date of its publication as an EN.
