Daptomycin is a lipopeptide antibiotic produced by Streptomyces roseosporus with reported in vitro bactericidal activity against gram-positive organisms. As a calcium-dependent antibiotic, Daptomycin has been reported to act on the cytoplasmic membrane and undergo a conformational change upon interaction with lipid membranes in a model system. After the conformational change occurs, the compound is inserted into the membrane and causes significant perturbations. Membrane depolarization and leakage occurs, causing death in susceptible organisms. |
