LiChrolut® EN offers the highest capacity for solid-phase extraction (SPE) of all LiChrolut® cartridges. The cartridge was especially developed for applications in environmental analysis where highly contaminated samples or very polar organic compounds should be analyzed. Due to their extremely large specific surface (approximately 1,200 m2/g according to the BET-method), the columns offer excellent adsorption capacity for polar organic substances, such as triazines, phenylurea compounds, phenoxycarboxylic acids, phenols, naphthols, aromatic nitro compounds and anilines. In comparison to LiChrolut® RP-18, LiChrolut® EN has a tenfold higher capacity. Thus, only 200 mg of sorbent are sufficient for reproducible extractions and high recovery rates.
Use of common organic solvents, buffer solutions, acids and bases over the entire pH range
Saving of solvent, as little solvent is required for conditioning and elution of the cartridge bed
Time saving, as less adsorbent requires less time for conditioning and drying
Improved analysis, as the reduced quantity of solvent required for elution leads to a lower degree of contamination and to an increase in detection sensitivity
Sorbent type | Ethyl vinyl benzene divinyl benzene polymer (orange) |

In comparison to commonly used C-18 sorbents, LiChrolut® EN offers at least 10 times higher sorbent capacity. This means that only 200 mg of LiChrolut® EN are necessary for complete enrichment of different trace contaminants from water.
A Range of Columns for Reliable Solid-Phase Extraction
LiChrolut® columns for solid-phase extractionLiChrolut® columns are designed for reliable and rapid solid-phase extraction (SPE). This is achieved by using strong but reversible interactions between the analyte and the surface of the stationary phase. A variety of surface modifications allow non-polar extraction (LiChrolut® RP-18 and RP- 18 endcapped), polar extraction (LiChrolut® Si and LiChrolut® CN), cation exchange extraction (LiChrolut® SCX), mixed mode extraction (LiChrolut® TSC), and non-polar extraction on a polymer phase (LiChrolut® EN). The latter is especially suitable for the extraction of pesticides and phenols in water, or drugs in body fluids.
Outstanding Purity and Uniformity
LiChrolut® sorbents offer excellent batch-to-batch consistency. This is due to stringent testing of raw materials and continuous quality controls of the final product. The optimized, validated and certificated production of the sorbents also ensures a high degree of purity and uniformity. The multi-stage purification procedures performed on LiChrolut® materials are particularly valuable for trace analysis. The proportion of elutable components is negligibly small, resulting in purer extracts. As all stationary phases are monitored using the most sensitive analytical methods, very narrow set tolerances can be adhered to.
