The Model 170 Ultrasonic Disk Cutter is an effective device for initial cutting of a TEM specimen from most types of materials. Specimen disks or rectangular wafers are produced by an ultrasonic technique that combines the oscillation of two lead zirconate titanate crystals at 26kHz with an abrasive media at the contact point of the cutting tool with the specimen, rapidly resulting in a high-quality sample. This cutting process minimizes specimen damage and an automatic terminator stops cutting when the tool comes in contact with the specimen plate.
