This AIR discusses the nature@ method of manufacture and chemistry of fine wire meshes of the type used for filtration and similar applications@ and how this information may be utilized in setting up a quality control program to insure reliability of meshes used for such applications. By fine wire meshes@ we refer to all wire meshes used in the manufacturing of filters for the aerospace industry. This includes not only the very fine meshes used for filtration@ but also the coarser meshes used as backup or supporting materials. Thus@ this AIR pertains to meshes as coarse as 10 x 10 or coarser@ as well as to meshes as fine as 400 x 2800 or finer.
