General: This standard provides color marking for thermoplastic insulated wire or color marking for thermoplastic jackets on wires and cables. In the case of transparent plastic jackets@ the color marking may be applied to either the underlying insulation or to the surface of the jacket. Application: Color marking shall be accomplished by use of either (1) solid colored insulation@ or (2) body color with other colored stripes. It is intended that these wires be interchangeable by color with textile braid wires. Where@ in textile@ braids consist of solid colors with tracer threads of contrasting colors@ this standard recommends that the base colored stripe (wide stripe) shall be used in lieu of solid colored textile braids. (See example in par. 3.3). NOTE: It is further recognized that the application of colored stripes to solid colored insulations may give poor color rendition@ especially dark colored stripes on dark colored insulations@ and these combinations are not recommended by this standard.
