This part of ISO 8640 defines the basic terms specifically related to the technology of stitch bonding machines and stitch bonding devices fitted to tricot machines, Raschel machines and crochet galloon machines for the production of textile structures made of different substrates or for combining different substrates to produce composites. During this process, the compound needles pierce the processing material and form stitches out of fed threads and/or fibres. Linear and planiform textile and non-textile materials can be used as processing materials. The figures illustrate the working principles of the various combinations. They do not represent the only, or even the most common, arrangement. NOTE — In addition to terms and definitions used in two of the three official ISO languages (English and French), this part of ISO 8640 gives the equivalent terms and definitions in the German language; these are published under the responsibility of the member body for Germany (DIN). However, only the terms and definitions given in the official languages can be considered as ISO terms and definitions.
