This part of IEC 60728 defines the characteristics of equipment used in the headends of terrestrial broadcast and satellite receiving systems (without satellite outdoor units and without those broadband amplifiers in the headend as described in IEC 60728-3). The satellite outdoor units for FSS are described in ETS 300158, and for BSS in ETS 300249.
This standard:
- covers the frequency range 5 MHz to 3 000 MHz;
NOTE The upper limit is an example, but not a strict value. The frequency range or ranges, over which the equipment is specified, should be published.
- identifies performance requirements for certain parameters;
- lays down data publication requirements for certain parameters;
- stipulates methods of measurement;
- introduces minimum requirements defining quality (Q) grades.
This part of IEC 60728 deals with the interfaces between headend components and explains the function of the devices if this is necessary to support the description of the interfaces.
Coders, transcoders, encrypters, decrypters, etc. are not described in this standard. If such devices are used in headends, the relevant parameters for RF, video, audio and data interfaces need to be met.
This part of IEC 60728 has been prepared to lay down the measuring methods, performance requirements and data publication requirements for headend equipment of cabled distribution systems for television and sound signals.
