This Standard specifies the laminated thermosetting high-pressure decorative sheets (hereafter referred to as "high-pressure decorative laminates").
This Standard establishes a classification system for high-pressure decorative lami?nates according to their performance and main applications (material characteris?tics, for example, postformability or reaction to fire).
This Standard specifies the required items on characteristics of high-pressure decorative laminates classified by this system. For several characteristics, more than one test method for checking the required characteristics is given. Among this, the alternative test method which gives approximately equivalent results, the expensive test method and only one test method in certain countries are included.
This Standard specifies the required characteristics of commonly used types, and other types shall be in accordance with the agreement between the parties concerned with delivery. The specified limit values shall apply to high-pressure decorative laminates commonly used, however, higher performance limit values for each classification may be specified in accordance with the agreement between the parties concerned with delivery.
The high-pressure decorative laminates shall be characterized by their decora?tive surfaces, which are relatively hard and having resistance to wear, scratch, impact, boiling water, domestic stains and moderate heat, and classified as follows.
— Ordinary high-pressure decorative laminate of less than 2 mm thick having thin single-faced laminate to be bonded to substrate
— Thick high-pressure decorative laminate of approximately 2 mm to 5 mm thick having single- or double-faced laminate which needs to be rigidly supported but not necessarily be bonded to substrate
— Thick high-pressure decorative laminate of more than 5 mm thick having double-faced laminate which does not need to be supported. The thickness shall be selected according to the application and the panel dimensions.
The back surface of high-pressure decorative laminate with single-decorated surface shall be made suitable for adhesive bonding to a substrate.
