This standard defines characteristics for spoken audio content and players to improve the listening
experience when used together. This standard is not limited to any particular format for publishing
content. Instead, this standard works in conjunction with one or more companion standards that define
how these characteristics are implemented in a given format. The first of those companion standards,
CEA-2003 addresses audiobook compatibility for the CD-MP3 format.
