The document applies to unlined and lined building pits and trenches excavated by manual or mechanical methods in which structures (e.g. deep, cellars, tunnels) are erected (e. g. drains, district heating ducts, cable cucts) or lines (e.g. cables, pipes) laid. It specifies the rules according to which building pits and trenches are to be dimensioned and constructed. For simple cases sheeting specifications are given, which are not subject to structural analyses if they are observed (standard sheeting). In accordance with building supervision regulations, structural types deviating from this standard require proof of serviceability, e.g. by means of a general building supervision licence, if their use is not permissible according to other directives introduced for building supervision purpose.#,,#
