This Singapore Standard sets forth a procedure for the determination of shading coefficients of glazing materials. This method consists of two parts. The first part deals with the measurement of solar transmittance, reflectance and absorptance of glazing materials. The second part deals with a calculational procedure for determining the shading coefficient of the glazed system using the measured values of solar optical properties. The method is applicable for both transparent and translucent materials as well as those with reflective coatings. It covers single as well as double-glazed systems.
Solar optical properties and, hence the shading coefficient, is a function of the angle of incidence of solar radiation. In this standard, it is recommended to report the data determined at an incident angle of 45° as required by the Development and Building Control Division, Public Works Department.
