A2->This Part of BS 3690 specifies the requirements
for cut-back bitumens which are suitable for use in
road construction and maintenance in the
United Kingdom.<-A2 The bitumens are classified
into a number of grades for each of which an
appropriate designation and properties are
specified.
A2->Penetration grade bitumens are now specified in
BS EN 12591 and BS EN 13924. Paving grade
bitumens are specified in BS EN 12591 and hard
paving grades are specified in BS EN 13924.<-A2
This Part of this standard does not cover bitumen
emulsions or bitumen mixtures containing lake
asphalt, coal tar or pitch; such materials are
specified in the appropriate materials standard
(see foreword).
Advice on handling and packaging, and on sampling
and testing is given in appendices A and B.
