This standard describes liquid sodium silicate used in the preparation of activated
silica, which is used as a coagulant aid for the treatment of municipal and
industrial water supplies for (1) the control of corrosion and (2) stabilization of iron
and manganese in water systems.
The purpose of this standard is to provide the minimum requirements for
liquid sodium silicate, including physical, chemical, sampling, testing, packaging,
and shipping, requirements.
