The World Telecommunication Standardization Assembly (Johannesburg, 2008), considering the purposes of the Union set forth in Article 1 of the ITU Constitution relating to the harmonization of telecommunication facilities; the duties of the ITU Telecommunication Standardization Sector (ITU-T) as set forth in Chapter III of the Constitution; the interest of both the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) in certain aspects of telecommunications.
