This International Standard specifies requirements for the design, construction, safety, performance and acceptance testing of windlasses and anchor capstans.This International Standard is applicable to windlasses and anchor capstans of sea-going vessels which have electric, hydraulic, steam or external drive.NOTE 1: Where reference is made in the text to “windlass” it should be understood as “windlass and anchor capstan”, where applicable.NOTE 2: For combined windlasses/mooring winches, refer to ISO 3730 in addition to this International Standard.
