This part of ISO 14644 covers the classification of airborne molecular contamination (AMC) in cleanrooms and associated controlled environments, in terms of airborne concentrations of specific chemical substances (individual, group or category) and provides a protocol to include test methods, analysis and time weighted factors within the specification for classification. This part of ISO 14644 currently considers only concentrations of AMC between 10 and lOg/m under cleanroom operational conditions. This part of ISO 14644 is not relevant for application in those industries, processes or production, where the presence of airborne molecular substances is not considered a risk to the product or process. It is not the intention of this part of ISO 14644 to describe the nature of airborne molecular contaminants. This part of ISO 14644 does not give a classification of surface molecular contamination.

Part 15 of guideline VDI 2083 covers the requirements for personnel and their clothing in relation to the cleanroom. Furthermore, indications on training for behaviour in the cleanroom as well as means of verification are given. Particle contamination caused by personnel can be effectively reduced by cleanroom garments, training and work place organisation. The purpose of this guideline is to discuss such measures for keeping possible interference caused by the "human contamination factor" within prescribed limits. Annex A applies to cleanroom trainings in accordance with the requirements of VDI 2083 Part 15. It specifies minimum requirements regarding the contents of training courses and the qualification of the trainers. Further learning contents not covered by this guideline may be added to the training programme so as to suit the needs of special areas of technology. Examples of such additions, specific to certain branches or subjects, can be found in Annex C through Annex F. The outline conditions are specified for performing the training and for the final examination.

This VDI guideline essentially deals with particulate contamination. Chemical (molecular), biological and radiological surface contamination is not a specific issue in this guideline; the same holds true for process media. This guideline provides definitions of the terms compatibility with the required cleanliness and cleanroom compatibility and, based on these definitions, the lassification and procedures serving to establish the suitability of equipment and air-handling components for use in environments whose air cleanliness and other parameters are assessed in accordance with technical rules (see Figure 3). Furthermore, it describes the outgassing and electrostatic characteristics of equipment and air-handling components associated with controlled environments. Surface cleanliness and its classification are also within the scope of this guideline. The compatibility of a piece of equipment with the required cleanliness includes all contaminations relevant to the process. The measuring techniques described in this guideline, serving to assess the compatibility of equipment with the required cleanliness comprise cleanroom compatibility, surface particulate cleanliness, outgassing behaviour.

This test method provides for accurate and reproducible enumeration of particles and fibers released from a wiper immersed in a cleaning solution with moderate mechanical stress applied. When performed correctly, this counting test method is sensitive enough to quantify very low levels of total particle and fiber burden. The results are accurate and not influenced by artifact or particle size limitations. A further advantage to this technique is that it allows for morphological as well as X-ray analysis of individual particles.1.1 This test method covers testing all wipers used in cleanrooms and other controlled environments for characteristics related to particulate cleanliness.1.2 This test method includes the use of computer-based image analysis and counting hardware and software for the counting of densely particle-laden filters (see ). While the use of this equipment is not absolutely necessary, it is strongly recommended to enhance the accuracy, speed, and consistency of counting.1.3 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

The cleaning of process media is an element of clean processing. The level of cleanliness of process media depends on a multitude of potential contamination sources. This part of the guideline VDI 2083 primarily assesses the influence of particulate contamination. Particulate contamination of products manufactured in clean rooms is not subject of this guideline.

This guideline describes the systematic approach for large-scale new construction projects as well as for extension, remodelling and renovation projects and for the installation of new equipment. The scope of services presented here serves as guidance in processing cleanroom projects of varying scope, complexity and degree of maturity. The specifications give particular consideration to the cleanroom-specific requirements while providing supplementary information on other aspects of the project, where necessary. The common rules of heating, ventilating and air-conditioning, as per EN 13779, shall be applied. The annexes contain checklists allowing systematic project processing.
