1.1 This practice covers the symbols and markings to be used with land search maps to show resources, search coverage, status, and results. 1.2 Operational usage of these symbols and markings, the resources they represent, and maps are not included in this practice. 1.3 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

Responder-defined requirements for these test methods are documented in a preliminary document entitled “Statement of Requirements for Urban Search and Rescue Robot Performance Standards.” Field of View is important in terms of the ability of the operator to drive the robot. Looking at the world through a zoom lens is like “looking through a soda straw.” Looking with a 30 or 40° field of view lens is like “driving with blinders on.” On the other hand, using a very wide field of view lens (with a field of view of 120 or 150°), the operator’s use of optic flow to cue depth perception is severely degraded and navigating in a tight environment is very difficult. Multiple cameras are recommended, with one providing a very wide field of view or all together providing a very wide field of view. Far Vision Visual Acuity is important for both unmanned air vehicles (UAVs) and ground vehicles for wide area survey. Zoom is required for ground vehicles for wide area survey. Near Vision Visual Acuity is important for ground vehicles for wide area survey in examining objects at close range and also for small robots which operate in constrained spaces. Testing in the dark is important for small robots since they must sometimes operate in spaces with no ambient lighting.1.1 This test method covers the measurement of several key parameters of video systems for remote operations. It is initially intended for applications of robots for Urban Search and Rescue but is sufficiently general to be used for marine or other remote platforms. Those parameters are (1) field of view of the camera system, (2) visual acuity at far distances with both ambient lighting and lighting on-board the robot, (3) visual acuity at near distances, again in both light and dark environments, and (4), if available, visual acuity in both light and dark environments with zoom lens capability. 1.2 These tests measure only end-to-end capability, that is, they determine the resolution of the images on the display screen at the operator control unit since that is the important issue for the user. 1.3 This test method is intended to be used for writing procurement specifications and for acceptance testing for robots for urban search and rescue applications. 1.4 This test method will use the Snellen fraction to report visual acuity; readers may wish to convert to decimal notation to improve intuitive understanding if they are more familiar with that notation. Distances will be given in metres with English units in parentheses following. 1.5 This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

1.1 This practice covers the requirement that urban search and rescue robots and all necessary associated components or equipment (for example, operator control station, power sources, spare parts, sensors, manipulators, tools, and so forth) shall complement the response organizations cache packaging and transportation systems.1.2 Shipment by ground, air, or marine should be considered.1.3 Volume, weight, shipping classification, and deployability of the robots and associated components are considered in this practice.1.3.1 The deployability is considered through the determination of:The length of time required to prepare the robot system for deployment, andThe types of tools required for servicing the robot system in the field.1.3.2 Associated components or equipment include not only all the onboard sensors, tethers, and operator control station, but also any spare parts and specialized tools needed for assembly, disassembly, and field servicing.1.3.3 Associated components also include power equipment necessary for the operation of the system, such as batteries, chargers, and power converters. Gasoline, diesel, or other types of liquid fuel are not included.1.4 The packaged items shall support the operational availability of the robot during a deployment of up to ten days. There shall be no resupply within the first 72 h of deployment.1.5 No such standards currently exist except for those relevant to shipping (for example, CFR Title 49 and International Air Transport Association (IATA) documents).1.6 The values stated in SI units are to be regarded as the standard. The values given in parentheses are for information only. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety concerns, if any, associated with its use. It is the responsibility of the user of this standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

This International Workshop Agreement (IWA) presents the consensus of the workshop participants on the subject of emergency preparedness in the form of the workshop recommendations, provides recommendations and guidance to ISO/TC 223 as the first step in a process that may eventually lead to the development of international standards on this subject, and provides the reader with some additional resources for further exploration of this area which is crucial to all organizations and entities.

This CWA specifies services and other items mandatory or optional for a Network Enabled Abilities environment. It also includes an inventory of standards and standard-like specifications applicable to each such item. These items include recommended general principles and framework for system design, overall architectures, generic functionality to be considered, concepts, conventions and terminology in order to ensure an optimum multi-purpose interoperability, in particular of national and multi-national military and civil operations. This CWA is applicable to the full life cycle of information system abilities for network centric operations, including specification, development, deployment, registration, and execution. The main audience of this document is individuals and organisations participating in the further development of information system abilities for network centric operations. The identification of services and other items of a NEA environment is non-exhaustive. The items were originally identified as a result of the examination of a number of scenarios. There might also be other standards and standardisation initiatives than those identified in this CWA. The listed standards are to be regarded as relevant standards known by the workshop participants. However, where there are no standards listed, this might indicate that NEA-specific standards have to be developed. The evaluation and selection of standards for NEA is identified as a very important task. Yet this is beyond the scope of this CWA and regarded as the subject of a future CWA or standard. Specifications for design of products and commercial services, decisions on technologies or development of specific applications are issues not in the scope of this CWA.
