Magnetic materials - Methods of measurement of the magnetic properties of electrical sheet and strip by means of a single sheet tester.
This European Standard defines the general principles of the measurement of the magnetic properties of electrical sheets and strips by means of a single sheet tester and gives the technical details of the measurement of specific total loss and of magnetic field strength, excitation current and specific apparent power. This European Standard is applicable at power frequencies to: a) grain oriented magnetic sheet and strip: - for the measurement between 1,0 T and 1,8 T of: - specific total loss; - specific apparent power; - r.m.s. value of the magnetic field strength; - for the measurement up to peak values of magnetic field strength of 1000A/m of: - peak value of the magnetic polarization; - peak value of the magnetic field strength; b) non-oriented magnetic sheet and strip: - for the measurement between 0,8 T and 1,5 T of: - specific total loss; - specific apparent power; - r.m.s. value of excitation current; - for the measurement up to peak values of magnetic field strength of 10000A/m of: - peak value of the magnetic polarization; - peak value of the magnetic field strength. The single sheet tester is applicable to test specimens obtained from electrical sheets and strips of any quality. The magnetic characteristics are determined for a sinusoidal induced voltage, for specified peak values of magnetic polarization and for a specified frequency. The measurements are made at an ambient temperature of 23°C±5°C on test specimens which have first been demagnetized.

Soft ferrite material classification (IEC 61332:2005); German version EN 61332:2005
Specifies classification rules for soft ferrite materials used in inductive components (inductors and transformers) fulfilling the requirements of the electronic industries. Provides cross-reference between materials from multiple suppliers; assistance to customers in understanding the published technical data in catalogues when comparing multiple suppliers; guidance to customers in selecting the most applicable material for each application; nomenclature for IEC standards relating to ferrites.

Soft ferrite material classification.
This International Standard specifies classification rules for soft ferrite materials used in inductive components (inductors and transformers) fulfilling the requirements of the electronic industries. This standard addresses the following purposes for ferrite suppliers and users: – cross-reference between materials from multiple suppliers; – assistance to customers in understanding the published technical data in catalogues when comparing multiple suppliers; – guidance to customers in selecting the most applicable material for each application; – setting of nomenclature for IEC standards relating to ferrite; – establishing uniform benchmarks for suppliers for performance in new development of materials. The numerical values given in this standard are typical values of parameters (properties) of the related materials. Direct translation from the material specification into the core specification is not always easy or possible. Every detailed material and core specification should be agreed upon between the user and the manufacturer.

Nowadays, by computer aided testing (CAT), a.c. magnetic properties of electrical steel sheets can be measured under various measuring conditions automatically. For example, the magnetic loss in the presence of higher harmonic frequency components of magnetic polarization can be measured using the arbitrary waveform synthesizer, digitiser and computer. The present standard methods (IEC 60404-2, IEC 60404-3 and IEC 60404-10) for the determination of specific total loss are restricted to the sinusoidal waveform of magnetic polarization, and these standards are still important for the characterization of core materials. However, actual waveforms of magnetic polarization in the electrical machines and transformers always include higher harmonic polarizations, and nowadays electrical machines can be designed using numerical methods including higher harmonics. But for these conditions, there is still no standard testing method. This technical report reviews methods for measurement of the magnetic loss of soft magnetic materials under the condition of magnetic polarization which includes higher harmonic components.
