This part of IEC 60947 specifies rules for control units, which perform the switching functions in response to the thermal detectors incorporated in rotating electrical machines according to IEC 60034-11, and the industrial application. It specifies rules for that type of system comprising a positive temperature coefficient (PTC) thermistor detector having particular characteristics, and its associated control unit. The PT100 detectors are covered by IEC 60751, where the resistor values are given according to the temperatures of the detector. The present rules lay down the characteristics of association of this particular positive temperature coefficient thermistor detector and its associated control unit (designated “Mark A detector” and “Mark A control unit”), when they are used in thermal protection systems. NOTE It is not possible to specify all the requirements for the operating characteristics of a control unit, as they are dependent on some aspects of the thermal detectors. Some aspects of the requirements of the thermal protector system can only be specified when account is taken of the characteristics of the rotating machine to be protected and the method of installation of the detector within the machine. For these reasons, for each characteristic it is necessary to specify who is responsible for stating the required values and who is responsible for compliance with the requirement and for carrying out any confirmatory test.

This Technical Report specifies a method of temperature-rise verification of low-voltage switchgear and controlgear ASSEMBLIES by calculation. The method is applicable to enclosed ASSEMBLIES or partitioned sections of ASSEMBLIES without forced ventilation. It is not applicable where temperature rise verification to the relevant product standard of the IEC 61439 series has been established NOTE 1 The influence of the materials and wall thicknesses usually used for enclosures can have some effect on the steady state temperatures. However, the generalised approach used in this technical report ensures it is applicable to enclosures made of sheet steel, sheet aluminium, cast iron, insulating material and the like. The proposed method is intended to determine the temperature rise of the air inside the enclosure. NOTE 2 The air temperature within the enclosure is equal to the ambient air temperature outside the enclosure plus the temperature rise of the air inside the enclosure caused by the power losses of the installed equipment. Unless otherwise specified, the ambient air temperature outside the ASSEMBLY is the air temperature indicated for the installation (average value over 24 h) of 35 °C. If the ambient air temperature outside the ASSEMBLY at the place of use exceeds 35 °C, this higher temperature is deemed to be the ambient air temperature.

This part of IEC 62026 specifies an interface system between single or multiple controllers, and control circuit devices or switching elements. The interface system uses two conductor pairs within one cable – one of these pairs provides a differential communication medium and the other pair provides power to the devices. This part establishes requirements for the interoperability of components with such interfaces. This part of IEC 62026 specifies the following particular requirements for DeviceNet: − requirements for interfaces between controllers and switching elements; − normal service conditions for devices; − constructional and performance requirements; − tests to verify conformance to requirements. These particular requirements apply in addition to the general requirements of IEC 62026-1.

This technical report gives guidance on the method of testing of ASSEMBLIES under conditions of arcing in air due to an internal fault. The purpose of this test is to assess the ability of the ASSEMBLY to limit the risk of personal injury, damage of ASSEMBLIES and its suitability for further service as a result of an internal arcing fault. The test procedure given in this technical report applies only: – to enclosed, floor-standing or wall-mounted low-voltage switchgear and controlgear assemblies according to IEC 61439-2 (power switchgear and controlgear assemblies – PSC ASSEMBLIES); NOTE This technical report can be used as a reference for arc fault tests of other products, but adaptations of the test procedures and acceptance criteria can apply taking into account the specifics of such other ASSEMBLIES or products. – to situations when doors and covers of the ASSEMBLY are closed and correctly secured. When tests under different or more severe conditions are agreed between the user and the manufacturer, this technical report can be used as a guide. The test procedure given in this technical report takes into consideration: – the effects of the internal overpressure acting on covers, doors, etc.; – the thermal effects of the arc or its roots on the enclosures and of ejected hot gases and glowing particles. The test procedure given in this technical report does not cover: – other effects which can constitute a risk, such as toxic gases and loud noises; – conditions during maintenance work, open doors or similar; – access to the top and bottom of the ASSEMBLY. This is a voluntary test made at the discretion of the manufacturer.

The IEC 61915 series is intended to improve interoperability of devices, network tools and application software. This part of IEC 61915 defines a framework for common representation of networked industrial devices and provides a template for documenting such a representation, independent of the network used. This framework follows the principles given in IEC/TR 62390, the “Common automation device – Profile guideline”, and refers to ISO 15745, “Industrial automation systems and integration – Open systems application integration framework”. NOTE 1 The device profile format specified in this part of IEC 61915 is compatible with devices connected to both bit- and byte-oriented networks. This part of IEC 61915 applies to root device profiles, generic device profiles, and specific device profiles. The root device profiles will be published in subsequent parts of the IEC 61915 series. NOTE 2 This International Standard is specifically intended for products covered by the IEC 60947 series. NOTE 3 Organisations such as consortia are encouraged to use the rules defined in this part of IEC 61915 to develop generic device profiles for use within their own organisations. Users (product manufacturers and other organizations) should use the root device profiles together with the rules defined in this part of IEC 61915. This part of IEC 61915 allows users to make extensions to the root device profiles and/or generic device profiles. Where no suitable root device profile exists, the user may develop generic or specific device profiles using the rules defined in this part of IEC 61915. This part of IEC 61915 recommends the use of a profile exchange language for representation of the device profile information in order to facilitate the profile’s use by network tools and application software. NOTE 4 The types of devices may vary from simple devices, such as pilot lights, push-buttons and limit switches, to more complex devices with many bytes of information, such as motor controllers, semiconductor motor starters, etc.

This part of IEC 62026 specifies a method for communication between a single control device and switching elements, and establishes a system for the interoperability of components with the specified communication interfaces. The complete system is called “Actuator Sensor interface (AS-i)”. This standard describes a method for connecting switching elements, such as low-voltage switchgear and controlgear, standardized within IEC 60947, and controlling devices. The method may also be applied for connecting other devices and elements. Where inputs and outputs I/O are described in this standard, their meaning is regarding the master, the meaning regarding the application is the opposite.
