This SAE Recommended Practice establishes a procedure for determination of vehicle road load force for speeds between 115 and 15 km/h (71.5 and 9.3 mi/h). It employs the coastdown method and applies to vehicles designed for onroad operation. The final result is a model of road load force (as a function of speed) during operation on a dry, level road under reference conditions of 20 °C (68 °F), 98.21 kPa (29.00 in-Hg), no wind, no precipitation, and the transmission in neutral. This document supplements SAE J1263 FEB96. SAE J1263 remains an alternative method for evaluating vehicle road load force during low wind conditions. This procedure incorporates recent advances in test equipment and data analysis; it defines vehicle road load force over an extended speed interval. Major changes are inclusion of real time anemometry to measure and compensate for wind conditions directly in front of the vehicle and use of a three term equation to model road force over a 115 to 15 km/h (71.5 to 9.3 mi/h) speed range. (The previous procedure relied on average wind conditions measured at distances up to several kilometers from the vehicle. Also, road load force was modeled by a two term equation and was, typically, simulated on a hydrokinetic dynamometer capable of being adjusted to reproduce this force at only one speed; performance at other speeds was a function of dynamometer characteristics.) In addition, this procedure specifically discusses and authorizes 'split' coastdown runs which must be used when the test track is too short to allow a complete coastdown run due to the vehicle's performance, weight, or road load force characteristics.

This document presents the requirements for a built-in service port to be used in vehicles intended to comply with Enhanced Evaporative Emissions Requirements. The primary function of the Service Port (Valve Assembly-Evaporative Emission Canister Purge Harness Service) is to provide non-destructive access to the evaporative emissions system toenable testing of the integrity of the system. The Service Port is used to introduce air pressure or fuel vapors into, or evacuates them out of, the system. This access may be used for the following evaluations:• Evaporative System Certifications Canister Loading and Purging• End-of-line Testing System Integrity• Service (e.g. OBD MIL on) Leak Location and Repair Verification• In-Use Compliance Testing Canister Loading and Purging• Inspection/Maintenance Testing System Integrity and Purge Check1.1 Mission/ThemeThe Service Port is a component of the Evaporative Emissions Subsystem. It shall be an integral part of the Enhanced Evaporative Emission Subsystem and therefore all requirements of that system must be met.1.2 ClassificationThe primary application of this service port will be passenger cars, and light, medium and heavy duty trucks that are required to have OBD II systems and meet Enhanced Evaporative Emissions Standards. This includes gasoline vehicles,and bi-fuel (gasoline/CNG) vehicles intended for sale in the United States and Canada or other marketplaces that adopt Enhanced Evaporative Emission Regulations similar to those in the United States and Canada.

This test method provides a structured procedure to establish a penetration rating for perimeter barriers subjected to a vehicle impact. Knowing the penetration rating provides the ability to select an appropriate barrier for site-specific conditions around a facility. The barrier penetration rating does not imply that a barrier will perform as rated in all site conditions, approach routes, and topography. Also, only single-specimen tests at a specified impact location are required by this test method, and therefore, not all points of impact can be tested and validated for the penetration rating. Other impact locations may respond differently.1.1 This test method provides a range of vehicle impact conditions, designations, and penetration performance levels. This will allow an agency to select passive perimeter barriers and active entry point barriers appropriate for use at facilities with a defined moving vehicle threat. Agencies may adopt and specify those condition designations and performance levels in this test method that satisfy their specific needs. Agencies may also assign certification ratings for active and passive perimeter barriers based on the tests and test methodologies described herein. Many test parameters are standardized to arrive at a common vehicle type and mass, enhance test realism and replication, and produce uniform rating designations.1.2 Compliance with these test procedures establishes a measure of performance but does not render any perimeter barrier invulnerable to vehicle penetration. Caution should be exercised in interpreting test findings and in extrapolating results to other than test conditions. While computer simulations are powerful tools that are useful in the development of new and improved barriers or in estimating performance under differing conditions, use of only the results from computer simulation for fielding a product is strongly discouraged. When performing a test, developers and users are encouraged to address specific or unusual site conditions as needed. Often local terrain features, soil conditions, climate, or other items will dictate special needs at specific locations. Therefore, if site conditions are likely to degrade a barriers performance, the agency in need of a perimeter barrier should require testing with the specific site conditions replicated for full-scale crash testing.1.3 Product/design certification under this test method only addresses the ability of the barrier to withstand the impact of the test vehicle. It does not represent an endorsement of the product/design or address its operational suitability.1.4 The values in SI units are to be regarded as the standard.
