This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) specifies laboratory test procedures and minimal requirements for the manufacturer of restraint systems for use in civil aircraft. It is intended to establish a minimum level of quality which can be called upon by the designer of those systems. However, compliance with this standard alone may not assure adequate performance for the restraint system under normal and emergency conditions. Such performance requires consideration of factors beyond the scope of this standard, and must be demonstrated by a system evaluation procedure which includes the seat, the occupant, the specific restraint installation and the cabin interior configuration. This standard specifies the requirements for Type 1, Type 2 and Type 3 restraint systems.

The scope of this Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) is to provide design recommendations for passenger cabin entry doors, service doors, and emergency exits. The objective is to have a reliable system standardized to make operation of the exits simple, quick and obvious to all occupants under normal and emergency conditions and facilitate qualification of cabin attendants for different airplanes. NOTE: It is not the purpose of this ARP to specify the design method or specific mechanism to accomplish the objectives.

This SAE Aerospace Information Report (AIR) covers information relative to container and pallet configurations (ULDs), maximum usable container, pallet and bulk compartments volumes and tare weights for the lower deck of various wide-body aircraft. Bulk compartment volumes are also included for standard-body aircraft. This document brings together data concerning the lower deck capacity of wide-body and standard-body airplanes. This information includes airplanes manufactured by Airbus Industries, Boeing, British Aerospace, British Aircraft, Fokker-VFW, Hawker Siddeley, Iiyushin, Lockheed and McDonnell-Douglas.

This SAE Aerospace Standard (AS) covers any protection system that serves the stated purpose. This document establishes minimum performance requirements for emergency equipment, which provides flight deck (sedentary) crewmembers with eye and respiratory protection from toxic atmospheres during in-flight emergencies. Defintion of sedentary: sedentary is herein defined as those flight deck crewmembers that remain seated at their flight deck stations throughout the emergency. For those nonsedentary cabin crewmembers whose duty it is to leave their flight station during an emergency (for example, to actively locate and fight an on-board fire).

The purpose of this document is to provide basic guidelines for use by aircraft interior designers so that oxygen masks connected to oxygen supply systems and oxygen masks made available for use by passengers and crew members are readily accessible and the total system utilized in the event the necessity arises for use of oxygen during flight operations.

This standard covers oronasal type masks which use a continuous flow oxygen supply. Each such mask comprises a facepiece with valves as required, a mask suspension device, a reservoir, or rebreather bag (when used), a length of tubing for connection to the oxygen supply source, and a means for allowing the crew to determine if oxygen is being delivered to the mask. The assembly shall be capable of being stowed suitably to meet the requirements of its intended use. This standard establishes the minimum requirements for the design, construction and performance of continuous flow oxygen masks for passenger cabin occupants in civil commercial aircraft.

This ARP discusses design philosophy, system and equipment requirements, environmental conditions, and design considerations for helicopter environmental control systems (ECS). The heliocpter ECS comprises that arrangement of equipment, controls, and indicators which supply and distribute dehumidified conditioned air for ventilation, cooling and heating of the occupied compartments, and cooling of the avionics. The principal features of the system are: a. a controlled fresh air supply; b. a means for cooling (air or vapor cycle units and heat exchangers); c. a means for removing excess moisture from the air supply; d. a means for heating; e. a temperature control system; and f. a conditioned air distrubtion system. The ARP is applicable to both civil and military helicopters where an ECS is specified; however, certain requirements peculiar to military applications, such as nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) protection, are not covered. The integration of NBC protection into aircraft ECS is discussed in AIR4362. The purpose of this ARP is to provide the guidelines and requirements for analysis, design, and installation of helicopter ECS.

This document defines the minimum degree of purity and maximum levels of certain deleterious impurities allowable for aviator's breathing oxygen at the point of manufacture or generation. It covers gaseous, liquid, and chemically generated oxygen, and oxygen supplied by in situ concentration and in situ electrolysis. Different limits are established for oxygen from different sources, in recognition of differences in the ways the oxygen is stored, dispensed, and utilized, taking into account the safety of the user. These limits are not intended to specifically reflect upon the relative capabilities or merits of various technologies. Procurement documents may specify more stringent limits, where required for specific applications. Medical oxygen is not covered by this standard. In the United States, medical oxygen is a prescription drug

This SAE Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) recommends performance requirements for test equipment used in dynamic testing of aviation oxygen breathing equipment. This document describes test equipment and methods used for testing continuous flow, demand and pressure demand regulators and their associated masks as well as filtered protective breathing devices; such articles of oxygen breathing or protective breathing equipment may be tested as individual components or as a complete system. This recommended practice covers but is not limited to the following types and classes of systems: Type I - mechanical breathing simulator (either bellows or piston type) only generating sinusoidal patterns; Type II - mechanical breathing simulator (generally cam-actuated, bellows or piston type or pre-programmed, servocontrolled) generating any shape of breathing pattern; and Type III - pneumatic breathing simulator pre-programmed, servocontrolled generating any shape of breathing pattern; Class A - military aircraft oxygen systems; and Class B - transport category and general aviation oxygen systems.
