This European Standard specifies restoration of cast austenitic manganese steel for fixed crossings and cradles for crossings with movable parts, designed to be flash butt welded or bolted to adjoining rails manufactured according to EN 15689. The standard also applies to flash welded leg ends of austenitic manganese steel crossings and the associated tri-metal zone. The standard specifies the approval systems for consumables and procedures used in manual metal arc and flux cored metal deposit repair welding. The standard includes the quality-related tasks and responsibilities and qualifications of personnel involved in the electric arc repair welding of cast crossings. The permitted welding processes are limited to Electric Arc (EA) in accordance with EN ISO 4063, specifically Process No 111: MMA (Manual Metal Arc) and Process No 114: FCAW (Flux Cored Arc Welding). Their applications are described. This standard may be applied for procedures in situ, at line side or at out of track locations. The purpose of this standard is to unify restoration of cast manganese crossings by electric arc welding across Europe. The standard provides control systems for the approval and qualification of welding processes, WPS, welding consumables, contractors and welders for the successful delivery of welds on crossings in service.

This European Standard defines minimum functional and non-functional requirements for Track Warning Systems (TWS) used to warn persons about approaching trains and rail vehicles during their work on or near the track. These systems may also have an additional function that can influence the approaching trains and rail vehicles. The influence could be a stopping, passing or other function. This European Standard is applicable to: - systems, sub-systems and components within TWS, including those containing software; - new TWS; - new integrations of systems, sub-systems and components into existing TWS; and; - modifications of TWS developed according to this standard. It is also recommended to use this standard for single warning units (e. g. simple electrical horns). This European Standard does not apply to the following items; - hazards during the installation/removal of the TWS caused by trains and rail vehicles on the lines; - hazards caused by the improper use of TWS; - hazards caused by the improper behaviour of persons working on or near the track; - hazards caused by the (unauthorized) presence of persons on or near the track; - CO2-horns (tyfons), human operated pressure signal horns, flags, detonators or machine warning systems according to UIC 644; - national safety regulations to plan and operate TWS in track.

This European Standard describes a test method for determining the intrinsic characteristics of sound diffraction of added devices installed on the top of railway noise barriers. The test method prescribes measurements of the sound pressure level at several reference points near the top edge of a noise barrier with and without the added device installed on its top. The intrinsic effectiveness of the added device is calculated as the difference between the measured values with and without the added devices, correcting for any change in height. In other words, the method described here gives the acoustic benefit of changing the shape and materials of the top edge over a simple barrier of the same height. This is an intrinsic characteristic of the added device, provided that the source and receiver positions are standardized. In practice, when the added device is placed over an existing barrier, it raises the height and this provides additional screening, depending on the source and receiver positions; this additional screening is not considered in this European Standard. The test method is intended for the following applications:- preliminary qualification, outdoors or indoors, of added devices to be installed on noise barriers; - determination of the sound diffraction index difference of added devices in actual use; - comparison of design specifications of an added device with actual performance data after the completion of the construction work; - verification of the long term performance of added devices (with a repeated application of the method); - interactive design process of new products, including the formulation of installation manuals. The test method can be applied both in situ and on samples purposely built to be tested using the method described here. Results are expressed as a function of frequency, in one-third octave bands between 100 Hz and 5 kHz. If it is not possible to get valid measurements results over the whole frequency range indicated, the results shall be given in the restricted frequency range and the reasons for the restriction(s) shall be clearly reported. A single-number rating is calculated from frequency data.

This European Standard is applicable to concrete sleepers or bearers with Under Sleeper Pads (USP) physically bonded to concrete used in ballast track and define the test procedures and their evaluation criteria. This standard provides particular information in the following areas:- test methods, test arrangements and evaluation criteria of Under Sleeper Pads; - test methods, test arrangements and evaluation criteria of concrete sleepers and bearers with Under Sleeper Pads; - data supplied by the purchaser and by the supplier; - definition of general process of design approval tests; - definition of routine tests. This standard defines the specific test procedures for design approval tests, routine tests and tests concerning the determination of relevant properties of Under Sleeper Pad with or without concrete sleepers and bearers; - fatigue tests; - tests of capability for stacked stocking of concrete sleepers or bearers fitted with USP; - pull-out test; - severe environmental condition test. This standard also sets out procedures for testing fitness for purpose and provides information on quality monitoring as part of quality assurance procedures. This standard does not, however, contain requirements pertaining to the properties of Under Sleeper Pads. It is the responsibility of the purchaser to define these requirements

This European standard defines the loading, the relevant load model positions and the internal forces acting on noise barriers, due to the air pressure wave set out in EN 1991-2:2003, 6.6.2. The vertical and horizontal shapes of the air pressure wave and the dynamic effects have been taken into account. The calculation method described in this European standard has been developed for noise barriers having a post-and-panel structure with piled foundations. It can also be used where cladding is attached to a rigid structure. For structures with piled foundations, an empirical formula for determination of the natural frequency is given in Annex A. Annex B contains an example of application of the calculation method for determination of internal forces and moments acting on a mid-post. The design of noise barriers (e. g. to fatigue resistance) is not part of this standard.

This European Standard applies to testing of rails installed in track for detecting internal discontinuities. This part applies to testing equipment fitted to dedicated test vehicles or manually-propelled devices. This European Standard does not define the requirements for vehicle acceptance. This part of the standard does not apply to ultrasonic testing of rails in a production plant. The European Standard specifies the requirements for testing principles and systems in order to produce comparable results with regard to location, type and size of discontinuities in rails. This European Standard is not aiming to give any guidelines for managing the result of ultrasonic rail testing. This European Standard applies only to rail profiles meeting the requirements of EN 13674-1.
