This part of ISO 8573 specifies purity classes of compressed air with respect to particles, water and oil, independent of the location in the compressed air system at which the air is specified or measured. This part of ISO 8573 provides general information about contaminants in compressed air systems as well as links to the other parts of ISO 8573, either for the measurement of compressed air purity or the specification of compressed air purity requirements. In addition to the above-mentioned contaminants of particles, water and oil, this part of ISO 8573 also identifies gaseous and microbiological contaminants.

This part of ISO 6145 is one of a series of International Standards dealing with dynamic volumetric methods used for the preparation of calibration gas mixtures. This part specifies a method for continuous production of calibration gas mixtures, containing two or more components, from pure gases or other gas mixtures by use of commercially available thermal mass-flow controllers. If this method is employed for the preparation of calibration gas mixtures, the optimum performance is as follows: the relative expanded uncertainty of measurement, U, obtained by multiplying the combined standard uncertainty by a coverage factor k = 2, is not greater than 2 %. If pre-mixed gases are used instead of pure gases, mole fractions below 10 can be obtained. The measurement of mass flow is not absolute and the flow controller requires independent calibration. The merits of the method are that a large quantity of the gas mixture can be prepared on a continuous basis and that multicomponent mixtures can be prepared as readily as binary mixtures if the appropriate number of thermal mass-flow controllers is utilized. NOTE Gas-blending systems based upon thermal mass-flow controllers, some including the facility of computerization and automatic control, are commercially available.

This standard serves to inform cylinder valve users, buyers, sellers, manufacturers, and others in the safe and proper use of cylinder valves. This standard covers cylinder valve design, manufacture, and use including performance requirements such as operating temperature limits, pressure range, and flow capabilities. It also includes requirements such as mate- rials, inlet and outlet connections, cleaning, qualification and production testing, maintenance, and recondition- ing. Except as noted in the last paragraph of this section, this standard is intended for valves for compressed gases packaged in U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) and Transport Canada (TC) cylinders. This standard provides information on valve selection, valve use guidelines, and valve protection caps (see Appendices A-C). Standards incorporated by reference in this publication include the referenced document's procedures cr teria and other requirements unless otherwise noted. This standard does not prejudice the continued use of valves in service or in inventory at a manufacturer's or user's site that were manufactured before the effective date of this standard provided the valves are identifiable to the original valve manufacturer and traceable to a manufacturing period. The identifying marks shall be per- manent and visible on an installed valve. The effective date of this standard is three years from the date of the publication of this sixth edition, which was April 1, 2009. Valves manufactured on and after the effective date of this standard shall be in compliance with this standard.
