This specification establishes general requirements for the processes listed in 3.3.1 for heat treatment of steel parts (See 8.2.1) by users or their vendors or subcontractors. Reference to AMS 2759 on a drawing, fabrication order, purchase order, etc constitutes a requirement to conform to the applicable provisions of the documents listed in 3.3.1 for the hear treatment of steel parts of the particular alloy described. Parts made from steels orther than those specified in the detail specifications may be heat treated in accordance with the applicable requirements using processing temperatures, times, and other parameters recommended by the material producer unless otherwise specified by purchaser. The conditions (temperatures, soaking times, cooling rates, etc) used by material producers, forge shops, and foundries for qualification of response to heat treatment of their products shall conform to the requirements of the specifications listed in 3.3.1. Heat treatment of raw material by raw material producers, forge shops, or foundries should be in accordance with the material procurement specification. Processes such as vacuum-furnace heat treating, flame hardening, induction through-hardening, austempering, martempering, and hot oil quenching are recognized heat treating processes, but their requirements are not completely covered by this specification.

This part of EN 746 gives the specific hazards and safety requirements that shall be provided by the manufacturer for hot dip industrial batch and the bath of continuous galvanizing thermoprocessing equipment, whether it is used as an independent unit or an integrated part of a plant. This part of EN 746 does not deal with the risks arising from any component handling equipment for the dip process or for the associated protective measures. This part of EN 746 does not cover the handling, storage, transport, disposal, transfer or regeneration of the zinc and the processed material outside the limits of the equipment. This part of EN 746 applies not only to the normal operation of the equipment but also to the safety of personnel and property in the event of abnormal operation and when foreseeable faults occur. Examples of hot dip galvanizing equipment are shown in Figure 1 and Figure 2. NOTE: There are many variations in the design of galvanizing equipment. Only two examples of the various types are given in this text.
