This international standard defines the mechanical, electrical, timing, and protocol requirements of the SCSI parallel interface to allow conforming devices to interoperate. The SCSI parallel interface is a local I/O bus that may be operated over a wide range of transfer rates. The objectives of the SCSI parallel interface are a) To provide host computers with device independence within a class of devices. Thus, different disk drives, tape drives, printers, optical media drives, and other devices may be added to the host computers without requiring modifications to generic system hardware. Provision is made for the addition of special features and functions through the use of vendor-specific options. Reserved areas are provided for future standardization. b) To provide compatibility such that properly conforming SCSI-2 devices may interoperate with SCSI-3 devices given that the systems engineering is correctly done. Properly conforming SCSI-2 devices should respond in an acceptable manner to reject SCSI-3 protocol extensions. SCSI-3 protocol extensions are designed to be permissive of such rejections and thus allow the SCSI-2 devices to continue operation without requiring the use of the extension. The interface protocol includes provision for the connection of multiple initiators (SCSI devices capable of initiating an I/O process) and multiple targets (SCSI devices capable of responding to a request to perform an I/O process). Distributed arbitration (i.e., bus-contention logic) is built into the architecture of SCSI. A default priority system awards interface control to the highest priority SCSI device that is contending for use of the bus and an optional fairness algorithm is defined. This standard defines the physical attributes of an input/output bus for interconnecting computers and peripheral devices. Figure 1 is intended to show the general structure of SCSI standards. The figure is not intended to imply a relationship such as a hierarchy, protocol stack, or system architecture. This international standard is intended as an alternate to the SCSI-3 Parallel Interface Standard. This international standard, in addition to containing all the information in the SCSI-3 Parallel Interface Standard contains information and specifications for LVD and fast-40 along with many other improvements.

This standard defines a set of system application program interfaces to operating system services. These interfaces provide access via the Ada programming language to the same operating system services for which C-language interfaces are specified in ISO/IEC 9945-1:1996 f2g c 1)2) and IEEE P1003.1g fB14g. The purpose of this standard is to support application portability at the Ada source code level. This standard is intended to be used by both application developers and system implementors. This standard is intended to be compatible with implementations of the 1995 revision to the Ada language standard (ISO/IEC 8652:1995 f1g). Fall-back approaches compatible with implementations of the original Ada language standard (ISO/IEC 8652:1987 fB5g) are also provided (see 1.3). This standard is intended to contain no specifications that conflict with “Year 2000” requirements. c This standard comprises three major components: — Definitions for terminology and concepts, and definitions and specifications that govern program structures, language-system interaction, and related requirements. — Definitions of the specific Ada interfaces to the system services defined by the POSIX standards, presented in the form of Ada packages. — Interpretations of Ada semantics with respect to the POSIX standards. The following areas are outside the scope of this standard: (1) User interface (shell) and commands associated with Ada program development. As stated in the introduction, the scope of the DPCS standard is to make it possible for integrated circuit designers to analyze chip timing and power consistently across a broad set of EDA applications, for integrated circuit vendors to express timing and power information once (for a given technology), and for EDA vendors to meet their application performance and capacity needs. The intended use for these standards is integrated circuit timing and power. The standard may be applied to both unit logic cells supplied by the integrated circuit vendor and logical macros defined by the integrated circuit designer. Although this specification is written towards the integrated circuit supplier and EDA developer, its application applies equally well to representation of timing and power for designer defined macros (or hierarchical design elements). These specifications make it possible to achieve consistent timing and power results, but do not guarantee it. They provide for a single executable software program which computes delay and power based on integrated circuit vendor-supplied algorithms (or designer-supplied algorithms for macros), but does not guarantee EDA applications correctly communicate the design-specific information required for these algorithms. By specifying standard exchange formats for parasitic data and floorplanning information, the standard provides a marked improvement over design environments with no such standards. However, it is the responsibility of the EDA application to correctly correlate the information between these standard exchange files and the actual design. These specifications also do not detail how the information contained within the standard exchange files shall be obtained.
