This International Standard specifies a time address, binary groups, and flag bit structure. In addition, the standard specifies a binary group flag assignment, a linear time code transport, and a vertical interval time code transport. This International Standard defines primary data transport structures for linear time code (LTC) and vertical interval time code (VITC). This standard specifies the LTC modulation and timing for all video formats. This standard also defines the VITC modulation and location for 525/59,94 and 625/50 analogue composite and component systems only.

This part of IEC 61834 specifies the content, format, and recording method of data blocks containing video, audio, and system data on the helical scan digital video cassettes using 6,35 mm tape as defined in IEC 61834-1 for recording MPEG-2 streaming HD signals. The MPEG-2 streaming HD signals defined in this standard have the following modes. This part of IEC 62071 defines the format of the data stream for the synchronous exchange of DV-based audio, data, and compressed video (whose data structure is defined in SMPTE 314M) over the interface defined in SMPTE 305M. It covers the transmission of audio, subcode data and compressed video packets associated with DV-based 25 and 50 Mb/s data structures including faster-than-real-time transmission for 525/60 SDTI and 625/50 SDTI systems. This standard does not include the data stream of a DV-compressed structure as defined in SMPTE 322M. Space within SMPTE 305M not used by a data stream conforming to this standard may be used for the transmission of data other than those representing DV-based audio, data and compressed video. In this standard, the 60 Hz system refers to the field frequency 59,94 Hz system and the 50 Hz system refers to the field frequency 50,0 Hz system.

Each of these channels is designed to be capable of independent editing. The video channel records and reproduces a component television signal in the 525-line system with a frame frequency of 29,97 Hz (hereinafter referred to as the 525/60 system) and the 625-line system with a frame frequency of 25,00 Hz (hereinafter referred to as the 625/50 system). Prior to recording, the digital signal is be compressed to a DV-based 25 Mb/s bit stream with 4:1:1 sampling or a DV-based 50 Mb/s bit stream with 4:2:2 sampling. The standard includes the process required to decode the DV-based 25 Mb/s bit stream and 50 Mb/s bit stream into output video, audio, and data.

This International Standard specifies the track content, format, and recording method of the data blocks containing compressed video, AES3 audio data, and associated data which form the helical records on 12,65 mm tape in cassettes. This standard supports recording of source picture formats using 1920 × 1080 pixels with the 4:4:4 and 4:2:2 sampling structure specified in SMPTE 274M at the frame rate of 23,98 Hz, 24 Hz, 25 Hz and 29,97 Hz, and using 1280 × 720 pixels with the 4:2:2 sampling structure specified in SMPTE 296M at the frame rates of 50 Hz and 59,94 Hz (see note). This standard also supports recording of 12 channels of AES3 audio data and 3 lines of uncompressed blanking interval data. This standard includes packetizing and shuffling operations supporting picture compression using the DCT and DPCM encoding methods defined by ISO/IEC 14496-2 (MPEG-4 simple studio profile). NOTE Early implementations of this standard might not comply to the frame rate of 50 Hz as specified in SMPTE 296M.

This part of IEC 61146 applies to the assessment of characteristics of automatic functions which are implemented in colour video cameras and camera-recorders. The performance to be assessed in this standard is limited to automatic functions relating to light input from the lens and to the electronic output from video cameras and the video camera portions of camera-recorders. This standard defines test patterns, measurement conditions, methods of measurement and the presentation of measured results so as to make possible the comparison of the measurement results. This standard intends to provide an objective method of measurement for each characteristic of the automatic functions but the results of objective measurements may not correlate well with the subjective assessment of automatic functions. It does not specify limiting values for the various characteristics related to automatic functions.
