The scope of this SAE Standard is the definition of the functional, environmental, and life cycle test requirements for electrically operated backup alarm devices primarily intended for use on off-road, self propelled work machines as defined by SAE J1116 (limited to categories of 1) construction, and 2) general purpose industrial). This purpose of this document is to define a set of performance requirements for backup alarms, independent of machine usage. The laboratory tests defined in this document are intended to provide a uniform and repeatable means of verifying that a test alarm meets the stated requirements. For on machine requirements and test procedures, refer to SAE J 1446.

This standard is intended to cover cigar or cigarette lighters as well as power outlets based on the form and dimensions of the cigar lighter, and accessory plugs for use in these devices. Components covered herein are designed to work in nominal 12 VDC systems. This standard is a full performance specification. It includes dimensional and operational parameters as well as performance characteristics which must be met when submitting a cigar lighter assembly, power outlet assembly, or plug for production approval. This standard constitutes an acceptance specification for these devices. This standard covers the operational, reliability, durability, acceptance, and testing requirements for a cigar lighter (also referred to as just "lighter") for installation in the passenger compartment of production vehicles. This standard covers power outlets that are based on the form and dimensions of the lighter receptacle intended for installation in the passenger compartment of production vehicles. This standard also covers plugs designed for insertion into the power outlet. Associated components supplied as part of, or with the lighter or outlet are also covered. Additional requirements may be added for these devices when mounted outside the passenger compartment of production vehicles. Testing shall be done on part families (i.e. lighter receptacles and related knob-elements), as opposed to separate piece-parts, as directed by the appropriate purchasing agreement. Lighter knob-elements and lighter receptacles are not intended to be interchangeable when manufactured by different suppliers.

These remanufacturing procedures are recommended guidelines for use by remanufactures of starter armatures to promote consistent reliability, durability, and safety of remanufactured starters. Installation of remanufactured or rebuilt products is often an economical way to repair a vehicle even though the products may not be identical to original equipment parts. Before processing any part, a remanufactuer should determine if the original design and present condition of the core is suitable for remanufacturing so as to provide durability operation of the part as well as acceptable performance when installed on the vehicle. The remanufacturer should also consider the safety aspects of the product and any recommendations of the original manufacturers related to remanufacturing or rebuilding their product. While these procedures are meant to be universal in application, various product types have unique features of dimension and design which may require special remanufacturing processes and tests that are either not covered by or are exceptions to these procedures.

This SAE Recommended Practice document defines a recommended practice for implementing a bidirectional, serial communication link among modules containing microcomputers. This document defines those parameters of the serial link that relate primarily to hardware and basic software compatibility such as interface requirements, system protocol, and message format. The actual data to be transmitted by particular modules, which is an important aspect of communications compatibility, is not specified in this document. These and other details of communications link implementation and use should be specified in the separate application documents referenced in Section 2. The purpose of this document is to define a general-purpose serial data communication link that may be utilized in heavy-duty vehicle applications. It is intended to serve as a guide toward standard practice to promote serial communication compatibility among microcomputer-based modules. The primary use of the general-purpose communications link is expected to be the sharing of data among stand-alone modules to cost effectively enhance their operation. Communication links used to implement functions that require a dedicated communication link between specific modules may deviate from this document.

This Standard applies to motor driven mobile air conditioning systems consisting of one in-car air coil (evaporator), a compressor, an expansion device, and one under-hood air coil (condenser). This standard can also be used for measuring systems that use electrically driven compressor if measurement of input power to compressor is carefully considered. This standard can also be used for measuring systems that include the entire air handling system if air side pressure drop for the entire vehicle system is carefully considered. This standard can also be used for measuring systems that include the entire front end cooling module if air side pressure drop for the entire vehicle system is carefully considered. This standard can also be used for measuring systems that include a secondary cooling loop if the power to drive the pumps in this system is carefully considered. This Standard specifies procedures, apparatus, and instrumentation that will produce accurate steady state capacity and efficiency data for refrigerant components. This Standard does not: Specify tests for dual evaporator systems; Specify transient test methods; Make recommendations for safety; Specify tests for production, specification compliance, or field testing of mobile air conditioning systems. This Standard provides a method of testing the capacity (performance) and efficiency (COP) of mobile air conditioning refrigerant systems under steady state conditions. The procedure proposed is designed to give maximum repeatability and minimum error in determining cooling capacity (Q) and efficiency (COP - Coefficient of Performance) of the refrigeration system of the mobile air conditioner. For that reason a "breadboard" type facility is proposed in which components are assembled into a system and exposed to operating conditions in individual, separately controlled chambers. The facility should allow for three methods to determine system performance: refrigerant side, airside, and calorimetric chambers. Each side yields its own energy balance calculation to find the capacity of the system. With the three methods used, instead of two as typically required, redundancy will be maintained even when the evaporator refrigerant exit is two phase. In this case only the airside and chamber balances are available. The design should be made so that two independent methods could provide agreement of less than +/-4.0% between two independent balances.

This SAE Recommended Practice supersedes SAE J1930 Apr 2002, and is technically equivalent to ISO 15031-2. This document is applicable to all light-duty gasoline and diesel passenger vehicles and trucks, and to heavy-duty gasoline vehicles. Specific applications of this document include diagnostic, service and repair manuals, bulletins and updates, training manuals, repair data bases, underhood emission labels, and emission certification applications. This document should be used in conjunction with DAE J1930-DA Digital Annexes, which contains all of the information previously contained within the SAE J1930 tables. These documents focus on diagnostic terms applicable to electrical/electronic systems, and therefore also contains related mechanical terms, definitions, abbreviations, and acronyms. Even though the use and appropriate updating of these documents is strongly encouraged, nothing in these documents should be construed as prohibiting the introduction of a term, abbreviation, or acronym not covered by these documents. Certain terms have already been in common use and are readily understood by manufacturers and technicians, but do not strictly follow the methodology of this document. The J1930 committee may approve these terms that already may be considered industry standards. These terms fall into three categories: a. Acronyms that do not logically fit the term; b. Acronyms existing at the component level, i.e., their terms contain the base word or noun that describes the generic item that is being further defined; c. Acronyms for terms that appear to contain the base word, but are frequently used as a modifier to another base word. (This use may possibly be thought of as following the methodology since the acronym is normally used as a modifier.)

This document defines the syntax and semantics for the carriage of SMPTE 291M Ancillary Data Packets in MPEG-2 Transport Stream PES packets. It supports ancillary data packets regardless of whether they originate from an SD or HD interface, or if the ANC data packet is from VANC or HANC, Y or C space. This SAE procedure encompasses both front and rear air conditioning systems utilizing refrigerants operating under sub-critical conditions.1.1 PurposeThe purpose of the SAE Mini-Shed Test Refrigerant Emission procedure is to provide a means of measuring refrigerant emissions from properly assembled vehicle air conditioning systems under specific A/C usage conditions (i.e., typical useconditions) and to convert the results to an estimated annual refrigerant emission rate (g/yr). Such conversion from laboratory test results to estimated vehicle emission applies to properly assembled systems and does not account fornormal production assembly variations.
