ISO/IEC 24700:2004 specifies product characteristics for use in an original equipment manufacturer's or authorized third party's declaration of conformity to demonstrate that a marketed product that contains reused components performs equivalent to new, meeting equivalent to new component specifications and performance criteria, and continues to meet all the safety and environmental criteria required by responsibly built products. It is relevant to marketed products whose manufacturing and recovery processes result in the reuse of components. Annex C has a description of how reuse relates to other recycling processes

この規格は，再使用部品を使用する事務機器製品が新しい部品だけを使用する製品と同等の働きをすることを，本来の機器の製造業者又はその製造業者が認定した第三者が供給者宣言する場合に，“満たさなければならない要件”を定めた指針である。また，この規格は，これらの製品が部品レべルにおいても，新しい部品と同等の仕様及び性能基準を満たし，責任ある管理体制の基で製造する製品に要求されろすべての安全性及び環境基準に継続的に適合していることを供給者宣言する場合にも用いる。したがって，この規格は，再使用部品を使用する機器の品質及び性能そのものを直接保証するものではない。さらに，この規格は，部品の再使用となる製造プロセス及びリカパリプロセス(リサイクルプロセス)で製造した事務機器に関するものであり，附属書Cに，再使用と他のリサイクルプロセスとの関係を示す。使用者が交換可能なトナーカートリッジなどの消耗品は適用外とする。また，本来の機器の製造業者又はその製造業者が認定した第三者によって再生された機器であっても，本来の設計性能仕様に適合しない機器は，この規格の適用外とする。この規格は，次の場合に適用する。
