The standard applies equally to monophonic, stereophonic and multichannel equipment and systems. The complete standard consists of the following parts in which the requirements for the individual units of a system are given: Part 1: General. Part 2: Radio tuner units. Part 3: Record playing equipment and cartridges. Part 4: Magnetic recording and play-back equipment. Part 5: Microphones. Part 6: Amplifiers. Part 7: Loudspeakers. Part 8: Combination equipment *. Part 9: Magnetic tapes for audio recording. Part 10: Headphones. The object of this standard is to prescribe the required minimum values of the characteristics of audio equipment and systems for high quality reproduction which are designed for household use. * A combination equipment is a set of two or more individual units intended by the manufacturer to be used together and marketed by him as such. For example, a set might consist of a tuner-amplifier, a pair of loudspeakers and a record playing equipment.
