Several test methods for measuring mass loss by abrasion and impact of preformed block-type thermal insulation have been used to some extent in the past. It is believed that no single test method completely covers all factors involving such forces for different kinds of materials, but this test method is intended to provide a procedure that gives reproducible results. It is used for comparing the mass loss by tumbling before and after a specific treatment of the insulation, as agreed upon by the purchaser and the manufacturer.1.1 This test method covers determination of the mass loss of preformed block-type thermal insulation as a result of a combination of abrasion and impact produced by a laboratory tumbling mechanism. 1.2 The values stated in inch-pound units are to be regarded as the standard. Both physical and chemical changes may occur from weather exposure, and these changes affect performance properties, service life, and maintenance schedules. For this reason, tests of properties relating to performance should be made both before and after specific periods of outdoor exposure. This test method recognizes that differing geographical locations, environmental conditions, differences between surface temperatures and ambient temperatures, and test durations may have extremely varied effects upon the test results. This test method is to be used for comparative qualitative testing.1.1 This test method covers out-of-doors exposure testing of finishes that are normally field-applied to thermal insulation which may include joints or joint sealants, or both. Such exposure may be essential prior to the determination of certain physical properties. This test method may also indicate compatibility problems between the joint sealant and the finish as well as the ability of the finish to span a dry joint. This test method is not intended to evaluate mildew resistance, efflorescence, or chemical resistance. Sie legt jedoch keinen speziellen Aufbau fest, da die Anforderungen, speziell an die Dimensionierung, zu einem geringeren Teil auch in bezug auf die Betriebsbedingungen, ausgesprochen verschieden sind. Diese Internationale Norm beschreibt weiterhin das Ger?t, die Me?technik und die notwendige Datenangabe. Spezielle Bauteile, zum Beispiel Fenster, erfordern zus?tzliche Verfahrensweisen, die nicht in dieser Internationalen Norm enthalten sind. Weiterhin sind Messungen des Einflusses von Feuchteübertragung oder -Umverteilung auf den W?rmestrom nicht enthalten, jedoch ist bei Aufbau und Betrieb der Einrichtung der m?gliche Einflu? der Feuchteübertragung auf die Genauigkeit und die Bedeutung von Prüfergebnissen zu berücksichtigen. Die Eigenschaften, die gemessen werden k?nnen, sind der W?rmedurchgangskoeffizient und der W?rmedurchla?widerstand. Es werden zwei alternative Verfahren angegeben: das Verfahren mit dem kalibrierten Heizkasten und das Verfahren mit dem geregelten Heizkasten. Beide sind für vertikale Probek?rper, wie z. B. W?nde, und für horizontale Probek?rper, wie z. B. Decken und Fu?b?den, geeignet. Die Dimensionierung der Ger?te kann so gew?hlt werden, da? Untersuchungen an Bauteilen in der natürlichen Dimensionierung m?glich sind. Die Verfahren sind haupts?chlich für Labormessungen gro?er inhomogener Probek?rper geeignet, obwohl selbstverst?ndlich auch homogene Probek?rper geprüft werden k?nnen, und diese sind für die Kalibrierung und die Validierung notwendig. Bei der Prüfung homogener Probek?rper nach dieser Internationalen Norm hat die Erfahrung gezeigt, da? im allgemeinen eine Me?genauigkeit von ± 5 % erreicht werden kann. Jedoch kann die Me?genauigkeit jedes einzelnen Ger?tes mit homogenen Referenzprobek?rpern, deren W?rmedurchla?koeffizienten den zu messenden Bereich abdecken, abgesch?tzt werden. Die Einsch?tzung der Me?genauigkeit für nichthomogene Probek?rper ist komplizierter und beinhaltet eine Analyse des W?rmestrommechanismus in den zu prüfenden speziellen Typen der inhomogenen Probek?rper. Derartige Analysen werden in dieser Internationalen Norm nicht behandelt. Das Verfahren berücksichtigt nicht Messungen mit Massenübertragung durch den Probek?rper w?hrend der Prüfung.
