The purpose of this document is to provide the computational solid and structural mechanics community with a common language, a conceptual framework, and general guidance for implementing the processes of computational model V&V. To this end, the reader will find a glossary of terms, figures illustrating the recommended overall approach to V&V activities, and discussions of factors that should be considered in developing and executing a V&V program. To maximize the value to the engineering community, the PTC 60 committee chose to write from the perspective of V&V for high-consequence computational predictions of complex engineering systems. However, the guidance provided here is also appropriate for simpler applications, recognizing that smaller budgets and lower risks will reduce the scope of the V&V effort. Also, while the concepts and terminology presented here are applicable to all applied mechanics, the focus is on computational solid mechanics.

This Technical Report provides practical methodological guidance for the long-term preservation and retrieval of authentic electronic document-based information, when the retention period exceeds the expected life of the technology (hardware and software) used to create and maintain the information. It takes into account the role of technology neutral information technology standards in supporting long-term access. This guidance also acknowledges that ensuring the long-term preservation and retrieval of authentic electronic document-based information should involve IT specialists, document managers, records managers and archivists. It does not cover processes for the creation, capture and classification of authentic electronic document-based information. This Technical Report applies to all forms of information generated by information systems and saved as evidence of business transactions and activities. NOTE Electronic document-based information constitutes the "business memory" of daily business actions or events and enables entities to later review, analyse or document these actions and events. As such, this electronic document-based information is evidence of business transactions that enable entities to support current and future management decisions, satisfy customers, achieve regulatory compliance and protect against adverse litigation. To achieve this goal, this electronic document-based information should be retained and appropriately preserved.

This Technical Report describes the implementation and operation of information management systems which store information electronically and where the issues of trustworthiness, reliability, authenticity and integrity are important. The whole life cycle of a stored electronic document is covered, from initial capture to eventual destruction. This Technical Report is for use with any information management system, including traditional document imaging, workflow and COLD/ERM technologies, and using any type of electronic storage medium including WORM and rewritable technologies. Image files may potentially contain any type of data: for example, correspondence, forms, drawings. This Technical Report covers all such image files, whether created and/or imported directly or through a network, from the time at which the system assumes control of the image file. This Technical Report does not cover processes used to evaluate the authenticity of information prior to it being stored or imported into the system. However, it can be used to demonstrate that output from the system is a true reproduction of the original document. Where in this document the term system is used, it should be taken as meaning the information management system that is being reviewed, unless otherwise stated.

This standard defines a protocol for the transport of commands and data over High Performance Serial Bus, as specified by IEEE Std 1394-1995 [B8] as amended by IEEE Std 1394a-2000 [B9] and IEEE Std 1394b-2002 [B10] (collectively IEEE 1394). The transport protocol, Serial Bus Protocol 3 (SBP-3), requires implementations to conform to the aforementioned standards as well as to IEEE Std 1212-2001, Control and Status Register (CSR) Architecture for microcomputer buses [B6], and permits the exchange of commands, data and status between initiators and targets connected to Serial Bus.

This National Standard of Canada is equivalent to International Standard ISO/IEC 15205:2000 / IEEE Std 1496, 1993 (first edition, 2000-06). 1.1 Scope and object SBus is a high performance computer I/O interface for connecting integrated circuits and SBus Cards to a computer system motherboard. This standard defines the mechanical, electrical, environmental, and protocol requirements for the design of SBus Cards and the computer system motherboard that supports those cards. Every SBus Card shall implement appropriate self-descriptive and initialization firmware using FCode, which is similar to the Forth programming language. The details of this firmware standard are beyond the scope of this standard.1) In addition, other software interfaces may be used for communication with SBus Cards. SBus is intended to provide a high performance I/O bus interface with a small mechanical form factor. The small size, high levels of integration, and low power usage of SBus Cards enable them to be used in laptop computers, compact desktop computers, and other applications requiring similar characteristics. SBus Cards are mounted in a plane parallel to the motherboard of the computer system, allowing the computer system to have a low profile. SBus is not designed as a general purpose backplane bus. SBus allows transfers to be in units of 8, 16, 32, or 64 bits. Burst transfers are allowed to further improve performance. SBus allows a number of SBus Master devices to arbitrate for access to the bus. The chosen SBus Master provides a 32-bit virtual address which the SBus Controller maps to the selection of the proper SBus Slave and the development of the 28-bit physical address for that Slave. The selected SBus Slave then performs the data transfers requested by the SBus Master. Simple SBus Cards may be designed to operate solely as Slaves on the SBus.
