This document gives guidance on the risk-based approach to follow for the design and operation of the LNG bunker transfer system, including the interface between the LNG bunkering supply facilities and receiving LNG fuelled vessels. This document provides requirements and recommendations for the development of a bunkering site and facility and the LNG bunker transfer system, providing the minimum functional requirements qualified by a structured risk assessment approach taking into consideration LNG properties and behaviour, simultaneous operations and all parties involved in the operation. This document is applicable to bunkering of both seagoing and inland trading vessels. It covers LNG bunkering from shore or ship, mobile to ship and ship to ship LNG supply scenarios, as described in Clause 4.

This document describes a method for determining the resistance of Cryogenic Spill Protection (CSP) systems to vapour generated from a cryogenic liquid release where the liquid content is practically zero. It is applicable where CSP systems are installed on carbon steel. The test provided in this document is not applicable to high pressure cryogenic liquid releases that can be found in refrigeration circuits and in LNG streams immediately post-liquefaction.

This document describes a method for determining the resistance of a cryogenic spill protection (CSP) system to a cryogenic jet as a result of a pressurized release which does not result in immersion conditions. It is applicable where CSP systems are installed on carbon steel and will be in contact with cryogenic fluids. A cryogenic jet can be formed upon release from process equipment operating at pressure (e.g. some liquefaction processes utilize 40 to 60 bar operating pressure). Due to high pressure discharge, the cryogenic spillage protection can be compromised by the large momentum combined with extreme cryogenic temperature. Although the test uses liquid nitrogen as the cryogenic liquid, the test described in this document is representative of a release of LNG, through a 20 mm orifice or less, at a release pressure of 6 barg or less, based upon simulated parameters 1 m from the release point. Confidence in this test being representative is based upon a comparison of the expected dynamic pressure of the simulated release in comparison with dynamic pressure from releases in accordance with this document. It is not practical in this test to cover the whole range of cryogenic process conditions found in real plant conditions; in particular the test does not cover high pressure cryogenic jet releases that might be found in refrigeration circuits and in LNG streams immediately post-liquefaction. Liquid nitrogen is used as the cryogenic medium due to the ability to safely handle the material at the pressures described in this document. The test condition is run at nominally 8 barg pressure. ISO 20088-1 covers cryogenic release scenarios which can lead to pooling conditions for steel work protected by cryogenic spill protection as a result of a jet release or low pressure release of LNG or liquid nitrogen. ISO 20088-2 covers vapour phase exposure conditions as a result of a jet release or low pressure release of LNG or liquid nitrogen.

1.1 This specification is applicable to wrought stainless steel and nickel alloy pipe fittings manufactured in accordance with ASME B16.9 and the materials specifications A403, A815, and B366. This specification only applies to fittings that are purchased “loose”. This specification does not apply to fittings installed on equipment that is engineered, manufactured, and tested prior to delivery to proponent unless specifically invoked in the purchase order. It does not apply to fabricated-type laterals. 1.2 This specification applies to fittings meeting the requirements of ASME B16.9 and special designed fittings such as self-reinforced branch connections in accordance with MSS SP-97. Self-reinforced branch connection may be made from ASTM A182 stainless steel and B564 nickel alloys. 1.3 Forged socket-welding and threaded fittings per ASME B16.11 are excluded from this specification. 1.4 Fittings purchased to this specification are suitable for use in accordance with ASME B31.3, B31.4, or B31.8.

1 Scope 1.1 Inclusions This Standard applies to newly-produced, hand-operated quick-disconnect devices, sizes NPS 1/8 in to 1-1/2 in, hereinafter also referred to as devices, constructed entirely of new, unused parts and materials which provide a means for connecting and disconnecting appliances or appliance connectors to gas supplies, and which are for indoor and outdoor applications. These devices are equipped with automatic means to shut off the gas when the devices are disconnected. 1.2 Applicable fuel gases and pressure references This Standard applies to quick-disconnect devices for use with natural and propane gas having maximum gas pressure ratings of 1/2 psi (3.5 kPa) up to and including 30 psi (207 kPa). A manufacturer must specify what pressure will be marked on the product. All references to psi (kPa) throughout this Standard are considered as gauge pressure unless otherwise specified. 1.3 Temperature This Standard applies to quick-disconnect devices that are capable of operation at ambient temperatures between 32 and 200 °F (0 and 93.3 °C) if intended for indoor use only, or -40° and 200 °F (-40° and 93.3 °C) if intended for indoor/outdoor use. 1.4 Manually operated valve provisions Clause 4.1.3contains provisions for quick-disconnect devices that incorporate manually operated valves. 1.5 Provisions unique to Canada Clause 7contains provisions that are unique to Canada. 1.6 Terminology In this Standard, “shall” is used to express a requirement, i.e., a provision that the user is obliged to satisfy in order to comply with the Standard; “should” is used to express a recommendation or that which is advised but not required; and “may” is used to express an option or that which is permissible within the limits of the Standard.
